I feel your pain. '64 was when I stopped following baseball. I was in college and my best friend's roommate was the president of Globe Tickets and we had box seats to all the Phillies home games. I watched with horror as they lost 10 games in a row to lose the pennant. I ripped up the tickets and never watched another game until this series. Did I jinx them or did we just go full circle?

Mike, glad you enjoyed the post. When you're a Phllie fan, you're hooked for life. It is sad my father missed the '80 Phillies, but he loved them anyway. The Eagles look to go all the way this season, so still hope. The best to you, too.

I just loved this Lou and of course totally relate as I've remained a die-hard Phillies fan [Eagles and Sixers too] despite living for the last 55+ years in NY City. I sometimes can't believe how much I care whether the Phillies win or lose but I guess that it has a lot to do with my childhood loyalties. Just reading the names of Richie Ashburn and Robin Roberts, my childhood heroes, warms my heart. I ache to think that your Dad never got to see the 1980 championship come to the Phillies, an event that took the monkey off the back of millions of Phillies fans, I figure. In a way, now the rest is gravy but seeing a winner again, like in 2008, remains very sweet and very lovely.

My best to you and Chris.

Michael
